Clearing Earwax

If you have experienced tinnitus because of excessive earwax, then your doctor will use a suction to clear out your ears. For this, the doctor uses a small curvy instrument known as a curette. Sometimes, the wax is not much and in this case, the doctor clears out the earwax by flushing it off with warm water.

If you are suffering from an ear infection then your doctor will prescribe you with ear drops comprising hydrocortisone. This will help relives the pain, itching, and infection. Even the doctor will suggest you with an antibiotic for the same to combat the infection.

Tinnitus Due to Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome

If your tinnitus is because of the temporomandibular joint syndrome, also known as TMJ, then your doctor will suggest you with a treatment recommended by a dental specialist or an orthodontist.

Tinnitus Medication Treatment

  • It is possible to treat tinnitus through various drugs. There are some drugs with low doses of anti-anxiety that can treat tinnitus completely. Elavil and Valium are such drugs that can reduce tinnitus to a great extent.
  • Using steroids supported with an anti-anxiety medicine known as alprazolam is known to be effective in treating tinnitus.
  • Even studies disclose that misoprostol; a hormone can effectively treat tinnitus.
  • Another medication known to treat tinnitus is Lidocaine. This medicine is used to treat various abnormal heart rhythms, and known to combat tinnitus to a great extent. But there are few risks associated with this medicine. Hence, it must be considered only when prescribed by a doctor.

Masking Devices

Large numbers of people are benefitted from tinnitus masks and devices that resemble closely hearing aids. Such aids play a much pleasing sound that is generated by the internal noise from tinnitus.

Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)

  • The individual with tinnitus plays some neutral sound including wearing the ear sound generator

Cognitive Therapy

This treatment is like a counselling that is offered to a person in order to enhance his or her reaction against tinnitus. The cognitive therapy can be combined with other treatments and medications in order to gain better results.

Dental Treatment

Some experts believe that tinnitus occurs because of the problem in TMJ or temporomandibular joint, which is the place where the jaw bone is linked to the head, right in front of the ear. So, doctors believe that considering such treatments can help to combat tinnitus to a great extent as it will relax the nerves and muscles connecting the jaw and close to the ear.

Cochlear Implants

Such devices are implanted in patients suffering from severe tinnitus. They can also help people suffering from hear loss problems due to tinnitus.

There are different treatments available for tinnitus, but it is always better to prevent the problem from becoming more severe. Hence, if you are suffering from tinnitus, then you must stay away from loud noise and harsh sounds.
